Annie Chown is a sound artist and composer, creating research-led works that explore the posthuman, the sensual, and the surreal. Through experimental approaches to acoustic and electronic composition, she creates immersive worlds that blur the boundaries between human and machine, self and other, real and imagined.

From cyborg stomachs to umbilical cord cables, Chown’s work embraces the theatrical and the uncanny. Using the surreal to navigate complex emotional and embodied experiences, she crafts performances that invite audiences into otherworldly sonic spaces.

Chown’s creative output includes multi-channel installations, electroacoustic concert works, scores for improvisation, site-specific compositions, and custom interface design. She is particularly interested in voice, fusing live electronics with vocal improvisation to discover new ways of sounding feminist experiences.

She has created works for organisations including the BBC, the Rothschild Foundation, and The Temple Church Trust. Her pieces have been performed in venues across the UK, such as the Royal Opera House, the ADC Theatre, West Road Concert Hall, and Milton Court Concert Hall, as well as internationally.

She is an active collaborator, working closely with movement artists from the BEX3 Agency, London Contemporary Dance School, and Trinity Laban Conservatoire. She releases music across streaming platforms and works regularly as a vocalist and brass player in theatre productions and live ensembles.

Alongside her creative practice, Chown is deeply committed to accessibility and community engagement in the arts. She is co-musical director of a community choir, performs recitals in residential homes, and participates in outreach initiatives supporting children in under-resourced communities in the Southeast of England.

She has recently graduated with a First Class BA Degree in Music from the University of Cambridge and is currently engaged in postgraduate studies at the Guildhall School.
